DMS PTA News March 2021

PTA MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Downing is a true community school nestled within the DFW metroplex. Our school is small, tight-knit, and draws from the nearby surrounding area, making the Diamondbacks a family. March’s Volunteer of the Month, Liz Bose, takes little credit, but makes an oversized impact as our Community Service Representative, making sure Diamondbacks in need have food, toiletries and clothing so they are prepared to do their best work in school. 

 

  When emergencies and tough times arise, Liz makes sure that our students have their needs met, week by week throughout the year. Working with our counselors and front office to provide LovePACs, holiday meals and presents, and an emergency pantry/clothing repository, Liz represents the very best of our PTA to provide comfort and ease worry for our Diamondbacks. An unsung hero, we thank, Liz Bose, for her indefatigable heart for service! 

 

HOSPITALITY

On Friday, March 5th, Teachers and Staff will be treated to a yummy fruit smoothie from Smoothie King!

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up, May 3rd-7th. We are in the process of planning a fun week for our amazing DMS staff.  Be on the lookout for more information on how you can donate items to make this week a hit!

 

CAMPUS REQUESTS
The Downing Middle School PTA will be accepting teacher/staff submissions for our annual Campus Requests. Teacher forms may be submitted to Camille Stoeberl in the front office. Our annual Campus Requests drive aims to provide our campus with resources that would otherwise go unfulfilled — last year we were able to buy a three-year license for counseling software used with all students, provide the math department with instructional-technology enhancements, and aid Mrs. Rodger’s exceptional students with improved headsets.    We are looking for projects that fill the greatest needs and/or serve the most students on campus. Deadline for submission is March 30. 

LAST CHANCE: LEGACY STONES

Thank you to our 10 families who have ordered Legacy Stones during our Winter sale to commemorate their students’ time at Downing Middle School. If you haven’t ordered yet, we will put in one more order this spring and would love to include your child!

Don’t forget to scan your supermarket receipts with the Box Top app, the easiest, peasiest way to earn money for your school. If you’ve got some older clipped Box Tops in a baggy in a kitchen drawer, please drop them off at the DMS front office PTA drop box and we will mail them in for your donation!
